Turkish Delight and Gel Medium Transfers
Very happy with the Gel Medium transfers I tried. After a miserable trip to the print shop where they were supposed to print on to my Lasertran , they eventually printed some Byzantine images onto normal paper. The Lasertran melted onto their printing cylinder despite my plea's to ensure that the printer was suitable enough. I wanted to avoid the Gel Medium technique because I believed it to be too fiddly. Anyway, that was all I had and the results are wonderful.
I had rusted A4 scrap paper in an old baking tin and stitiched it to Lutradur for firmness. I had run out of pelmet vilene which would have been my first choice. GM applied, image face down, burnish till the air bubbles had gone and start removing the backing paper. I tried after it had dried and while it was still wet and got similar results. yes, it was messy but I quite enjoyed it. The paper tore and moved a couple of times but lent an aged look to the whole thing. Library images I photocopied were just not as clear and using the mirror image selector would have helped with images of maps and words. Next time! I love the way the image layers well with the text from the scrap paper and the rust. I think this works rather than gluing the image down which would not be transparent at all.
