Dale Rollerson of The Threadstudio called for entries to her travelling exhibition, Textile Tantrums, back in January. They winner was announced in Melbourne, I didn't win but figured I was so transfixed on 'Doors' that the idea of a tantrum escaped me. I think I tried at one point to incorporate a Boston Teaparty type tantrum into my pieces since teabags were also fairly significant in my life at that time, to no avail. Very happy with these pieces though. Used a rubber stamp from my friend Sue Merton who makes exqusite handmade cards and altered clothing so I have no idea whose it is. The sheet came with various images of door furniture so I used the door handle and locks on copper shim, cut out the lock part to reveal the underlayers. The base is my recycled Verona series, Giuliette's Wall, with small squares cut out and stitched on to resemble the heavy wooden doors found in old towns in Italy with great brass or copper nails protruding in regular patterns and lots of Xpandaprint and stitching. The second piece is similar but the swirly motif was taken from the filagree iron work outside the gates of historic buildings.
