Dale Rollerson visited Shore Thing at our exhibition at The Friendly Societies Hall in Devonport last weekend.  She had lovely things to say about my 'kite' which was high praise indeed coming from someone I admire so much.

'Out Of The Shadows'. An oil painting submitted for The Learning Connexion end of year exhibition which opens on Thursday the 4th of December.  The picture is of the painting unframed but I did have one put on before it went down.  Such was the spontaneous nature of it that not alot of thought went into placement on the canvas which inhibited using a stretcher frame.  Better luck next time.

Close up of 'Chaos'

The image is a close up of one of my 3D pieces submitted to the Estuary Arts Centre called 'Chaos'. What is interesting to me is the fact that it 145Kb. After doing some research into digital imagery and studying my camera manual (if else fails) I've learnt that my email setting (VGA) is unsufficient for printing out high quality images. This may sound incredibly basic to more digital savvy people but the extent was what surprised me. To print out a high quality resolution A5 size image you should have an image of 5M! Significantly more than a twee 145Kb wouldn't you say?
I'm looking forward to taking images at the exhibition with a 5M setting and VGA setting to upload here print out some decent images to start a high quality Portfolio.

Nepalese Felt Bead Jewellery

Thrilled with my necklance and earrings constructed with the help of Julie Jackson, a well known New Zealand embroiderer and bead artist. Sheryl Sefton sourced the beads for me in a variety of sizes after seeing some very expensive jewellery in some of the local shops made from them. I made them specifically for the opening of our 8 Perspectives textile exhibition at the Estuary Arts Centre in Orewa this Thursday.

A Card for my sister-in-law

Flowers and cards are all wonderful options for someone who has just had an operation but sometimes it doesn't have quite the same meaning. Intent, yes, but an easy option nonetheless. I wanted to create a talisman for her but need to think on that a bit more. In the meantime the card will do till I can think of something else.

Lifes Woven Threads

I've really got to remember to rotate the picture before I transfer it to my file. This piece is also for Orewa. The Red Thread is from a Chinese story about a red thread linking all of us together.
This piece is for 'Lifes Woven Threads' at Gallery in Orewa towards the end of the year. There are a few more wire pieces to add yet but the idea is developing. I'm calling it a Brain Map with the central them as 'Life'.....I'm yet to research some more words to add as it is looking a little 'bald'.

My first class. A group of ladies from Whangarei wanted to play with paint and textiles. Sheryll Sefton and I introduced them to Lutradur, Tyvek and Thermofoam among other things, sitching, painting and burning. We used Highbury House Creche hence the little chairs and table. The most enjoyable part was showing them a technique and seeign what they did with it. I learnt that a lesson plan is a helpful backup should the participants be totally brain dead and have no initiative at all and that an end product is actually quite satisfying for most people.

Life's Woven Threads

My 3D brief for the Learning Connexion Stage 1 Year 1 Diploma in Art and Creativity will coincide with 8 Perspectives exhibiting at the Estuary Gallery in September. This is as far as I've got at present. I am anitcipating her to be mounted on a small flat base ie an altered drinks coaster and significantly more wire 'hair'. I am also planning to put on the ends of the hair stamped metal words pertaining to the topic....probably a little melancholy but there you go.
